A nano aquarium refers to a small-volume tank not exceeding 40 gallon capacity. It is any tank that is between 5 to 30 gallons, but can still function as a unit independently on its own.
Although nano tanks can only house a few aquatic life, there is still a great deal of work that goes into its care and maintenance. Some may argue that a protein skimmer isn’t really essential for a nano tank as most of the wastes will be taken off with your regular water changes. However, a nano protein skimmer efficiently removes all the gunk and waste from inside the tank without you having to lift a finger.
In short, it’s a helpful aquarium equipment to have but not an essential. If convenience is your thing, a protein skimmer for your nano tank is certainly a good equipment to have.
